Some Feedback |
|
Braham has re dyed the E type Jag seats
using the whole Leatherique process. His
comment to the owner was, "Have not
overdone the restoration, left some age
marks to give it the authentic and
proper ambience for a girl her age" |

"Henry has
re done
the whole
of his Aston
Martin interior.
He used
Leatherique
throughout
and sprayed
it on with
an airbrush
after trying
various
other methods.
To break
the colour
he applied
a dark blue
Leatherique
dye to the
piping after
doing the
seats, which
has given
it a really
striking
effect.
This was
a time consuming
job with
all the
Leatherique
products
being used,
oils, crack
filler etc
but the
result was
worth it.
He brought
it round
to PPC to
show us.
Well done
on an excellent
job Henry." |

The customer wanted
to change the colour
and get away from
the two tone that
he had on the original.
|
 |
"I thought you may
be interested in
the finished Leatherique
product.
I'm pleased with
it, the problems
were to re colour
and trying to get
different types
of leather and different
colours to all look
the same, I've done
the best I can,
and it looks good.
But, may I make
the following comments,
with regard to the
instructions, first,
there should be
mention of "GOOD"
quality brush, the
softer the better,
be prepared to use
a few.
Second, if I had
more "Leatherique
Prepping Agent"
I would have used
it, it really seemed
to open up the leather
and almost bleach
some of the old
dye out.
This is important
when trying to match
darker colours to
lighter colours.
I found I was experimenting
in the beginning,
and with a bit more
instruction I could
have avoided that.
That aside, a good
finished product,
so I'm happy."

Before |

After |
Here are the before
and after pics.
The before pics
were taken in the
car. The after pics
are the seats on
the dining table.
I hope you can see
the difference from
the photos because
in the flesh the
change is quite
big. I'd definitely
recommend to future
users to take the
time and apply the
dye with the method
you mentioned the
other day. It produces
a much better finish
and it would take
a real eagle eye
to detect that it
wasn't new leather.
The experts say,
"keep" sanding and
then do a wipe coat
as below.
1. Take a good quality
paper towel
2. Dip in water
3. Wring dry
4. Make into a "powder
puff" no edges
5. Dip in the dye
6. WIPE on the dye
in a quick motion
like putting on
wax.
The result is about
a 2 mil finish which
looks like an airbrush
was used. You keep
adding dye as each
coat dries till
the project
is finished. |

Leatherique
(no affiliation) is
wonderful. I have not
used the
others.
Make
sure if you use Leatherique
that you follow their
recommended
use instructions. The

name).

I
have searched the Jag-lovers
archives for some counsel
on which
is
best for cleaning/conditioning
leather on XJ8s, but
it seems
inconclusive.
Thus I am asking again
now: are all of these
ok for
my
2001, in which the leather
is in really nice condition,
no
restoration
required. Any thoughts
or suggestions on whether
I
should
or should not use Connolly's,
Leatherique, Meguiars
Classic
Gold, or any other leather
cleaner conditioner?
As
always,
advice/recommendations
greatly appreciated.

Leatherique
- get the leather cleaner
and Rejuvenation Oil,
hands
down.
The
other brands are actually
just a cheap 'polish',
a glossy
coating.
Leatherique claims to
contain proteins and
collagens and
not
simply oil, and indeed,
you'll find the VDP's
hyde will LOVE
it.
The
cleaner is also a worthy
step. It removed dirt
from my cars'
hides
I didn't even know was
there. It also managed
to completely
de-grime
the dried, rough and
nasty steering wheel
on both cars.
(No
affiliation - just a
long-standing satisfied
customer. I also
used
Leatherique on my old
540.)

I
have tried everything,
MCGuiars, Lexol, Gliptone,
etc. Without
a
doubt, the best is Leatherique.
By
the way, Lexol removed
the finish on my Antelope
Colored
Steering
wheel.

With
the spray bottle brands,
keep in mind that they
are somewhat
detergent.
You don't want to rub
but gently wipe on and
off, not
buff.
Leatherique
is the best I've used
out of the lot.
The
only thing most pleasing
about the spray cleaners
working in
reverse
order is the scent,
availability, and ease
of use. I
prefer
Leatherique and Hide
Food for conditioning,
and leave the
cleaning
and maintenance to Lexol
and Meguiars. Use sparingly,
don't
soak 'em.
Don't
over condition the leather,
once or twice a year
is plenty
even
in a hot dry climate
like Southern California
if you are
doing
any cleaning in between
conditioning.
