Eastwood Rust Encapsulator has been tested by an independent lab to be one of the most effective rust-preventive products yet. Rust Encapsulator is a great primer for floor pans and other underbody parts. It fills tiny pin-holes and surface irregularities, and is compatible with lacquer, enamel and urethane topcoats (including Eastwood Chassis Black). For the absolute ultimate rust remedy, first brush or spray-on Eastwood Rust Converter, then prime with Rust Encapsulator. One 15-oz. aerosol covers about 10 sq. ft., and contains no isocyanates. Heat-resistant up to 400℉.

Application
Use a wire brush to remove loose rust, scale and paint, and remove dust, grease and oil deposits. Wipe down with either Acetone or Pre Painting Prep (10041Z). Feather surrounding paint with 220-grit sandpaper. Shake can for at least 2 minutes once the mixing ball starts to rattle. Hold the Rust Encapsulator can 10-12" above surface as you spray. A single coat dries to the touch in 20 minutes, and is thoroughly dry in 3-4 hours at 68℉. For greater durability, a second coat can be applied 1 hour after the first. Allow 6-8 hours after the last coat before applying topcoat. Use over or under body fillers.

Work in a well-ventilated area when applying this product. The use of a respirator is recommended. Shake aerosol vigorously for 2 minutes before spraying.

  • Great product
Bought this last month to paint a trunk and it worked perfectly
  • very easy to use
bought this product to use on a truck frame on a project
  • When brush-on is a must
Great product but drys fast. I prefer aerosol but some jobs dictate brush. Wish it came in silver
  • No problems with product
I use the aerosol and the quarts for restoring in my shop and I am pleased with the rust encapsulator. One example I can tell you about, I sand blasted and striped a chevy pickup frame 7 years ago and ever aspect of the frame is rust free.
  • Great restoration product
have used this product for several years with great results.
  • Does the Job
I’ve used this a couple times on jobs and it seams to hold up well. The aerosol cans are great for reaching in tight spots.
  • Awesome product
Works awesome covers way more than I thought it would great products
  • Awesome Product
This product was recommended to me by a friend. I absolutely love it. I used it on my entire bumper. It was easy to apply and my bumper looks great!
  • Rust Encapsulator
I love this product I have used it on my bronco and Chevy and other rusted parts works amazing. I’ve tried other similar products and they do not compare.
  • Nice stuff
Sprays well, dries fast. I had collision shop for 30yrs believe me this is nice stuff. Just don’t use per paint prep, before you paint over it prep is too aggressive. Just tack off and paint , if that’s what you’re doing, or just leave it.
  • Great product
I purchase and coated my undercarriage and most exposed body area 20 years and now reapplying. Love this product it works.
  • Rust encapsulator
I have used this product for years. Excellent, has worked great. Easy to apply and keeps steel in great shape
  • Rust converter
I used it on my sons 1995 s-10 frame and patch panels after welding works great
  • Rust
I have used both silver and black rust encapsulator on my projects , The silver was inside a 42 Chevy truck 10 years ago , Still looks good with no rust inside . This truck was set aside in a barn, my son now owns . My newest project I am using black under the dash and cowling on a 71 Chevy truck , goes on great and looks like OEM metal . We are going to order more and spray the whole cab inside and out.
  • Great for annual frame maintenance!
Every summer I powerwash the under carriage of my Dodge Cummins truck. It’s 12 years old but looks new. I live in Teton Valley Idaho and they have been salting the roads in recent years. Fatalities may be down which is great, but corrosion has become a major issue. I treated my truck frame with the encapsulator and it looks new and seems to be holding up well. Nice product.
  • Extremely durable
I have been using this product for years. I would never start a project without it. Great durability and excellent long term results
  • Awesome Product
I'm working on a 1948 Ford F1 and at 69 years old it's RUSTY. I intend on keeping the patina on the outside but want everything underneath healthy and able to resist the elements, so I bought the Rust Encapsulator to do the job. I followed the insturctions and applied. Covers vary easily and has done a great job!
  • Really handy
On my 39 Buick, I have spots on the body (under the original trim) where there are rust pits. After blasting them, I want to be sure that the pits are sealed. A small spray directed just on that area is so easy to do. After a day, I sand lightly and spray epoxy primer. This gives me some peace of mind should ther be any rust in those pits.
  • Black rust encapsulator is the BEST
I've bought rust encapsulator for several years and it is probably the best overall paint product I've ever used. The sheen is perfect, it lays down so nice on so many different surfaces, the fact that you can use it directly over rust is just a bonus. But it is awesome at killing the rust . I haven't had any rust ever come back once I hit it with rust encapsulator. Great stuff!
  • Great stuff...
Easy to use, works great. I would recommend this product to any one with a rust that needs to get the job done right ! AAA+++
  • FANTASTIC PRODUCT
This is the first time I used this product Rust Encapsulator in my restoration on a 1986 Dodge D150. The driveshaft was real rusty. I sanded down the loose rust and sprayed on the R.E. I should have chosen a gray color of R.E. black on black was difficult to see. OOPS!
  • Looks good so far.....Long term will tell.
I had a small spot of rust on the underside of my Javelin's hood. I needed a spray to get to it. This seems to have done it's job but long term will be the final test. Delivery via FedEx and USPS was VERY slow.....item was shipped a few hundred miles but took well over a week and half....so don't be in a hurry!
  • rust encapsulator
wow after using par 15 for quite some time I thought heck I will give this a try love it at 1/2 the price thanks Eastwood
  • Seems to be a great product
Seems great but only time will tell. Sprays WONDERFUL! Lays down flat and has a nice flat / semi gloss finish and primer like texture. I was very pleased. Hopefully it works as advertised for stopping the rust.
  • Great stuff!
I have restored a few older trucks that I painted with this and it came out fantastic! All around great paint.
  • Rust Encapsulator Aerosol
I have used this product many times and love it. Very easy to use and works very well.
  • easy to apply
I am restoring a 1927 REO coupe and used this all over in the interior etc.
  • great product
Always works when prepped correctly. Very convenient as a spray can for hard to reach areas.
  • Ok stuff
I got this product right on time. I have a new fender for my truck so I wanted more weather protection. The fender came primed with something. It was pretty inert as lacquer thinner and acetone wouldn't touch it. I sprayed 2 coats of the rust encapsulator on the fender and forced it to run in the weld seams. It dried as the instructions noted. In fact it was pretty smooth semi gloss black. I lightly sanded the exterior, wiped it with acetone and sprayed 2 coats of epoxy primer over the entire fender. the temperature dropped so the primer took a while to dry. I tried a small scratch test a good 24 hours later and the finish including the rust encapsulator is very hard. I'll do a wet sand with 500 grit right before I paint. It's very smooth as it is.
I hope it's a number of years before I see rust again. This is Minnesota so we have all kinds of salt and chemicals on the roads in the winter.
Maybe I can come back in a few years and up date this review.
I give it 5 stars so far. Easy to apply and nice rattle can spray nozzles.
  • Works well
Outdoor screws started showing rust, but this spray fixed it completely
  • Rust Encapsulator
This product lives up to my expectations. It works well and lays down nice and easy with no runs. It creates a nice finish and I use it on more than just my restoration project. Thank you!!
  • new to the product
First time I used the product. Thin as water. No thinning needed. Will spray from any gun. Covers well, including cracks. Don't know how it will hold up. Will review it next after testing. Dries quick. Hard to get off hands or anything if you let it dry.
  • Works Great Looks Great.
I wired brushed the shock mounts on my F150 several times with Fast Etch and used a pre prep cleaner by Eastwood before I applied the Rust Encapsulator. It dries pretty quickly and has a nice smooth shine just like the Extreme Black Chassis gloss. It's too early to report on the rust coming back, but I doubt it will. I used Extreme Black Chassis gloss on my U-Haul trailer hitch 6 years ago and still no rust. Nothing so I believe the Rust Encapsulator will be very similar..
I plan to use Rust Encapsulator for the whole frame, but I'm still using the Fast Etch on my frame first. I do a few feet a day when I have time. Getten' Er Done.... So far this is the best product I've used to control rust.
  • Easy to apply
I thought it was very easy to apply and it seemed to soak in very well
  • boat oil pan application
Applied to a rusty oil pan on a 1991 Mastercraft boat. The most difficult part was working in the confinement of the engine compartment. I did this about 3 months ago and the pan still looks new. I brushed the product on and in some areas I used a rag to apply. Great product ! Preparation and cleaning is the most important part of the process, take your time.
  • GOOD
I bought it a week ago and very with how it work on rust
  • Another product true to the ad
Saved a lot of time and work on my project, intend to continue using it.
  • GREAT
I have used this product in the past and it works great. In fact I have just received another can.
  • Love this stuff use it everywhere. Totally trust
Use this product everywhere instead of primer never have had a problem.
  • Rust encapsulate
Love it ,great adhesion and derablety, covers well and go's farther than you think. I want some more. Thanks
  • Products that work!!!
I have restored many cars over the past 25 years and first used rust encapsulator in 1998. I still have a car that I painted the rusted floor pans in 2001 and they still look great! All I have to do is power wash occasionally. I highly recommend this product.
  • Rust Encapsularor
Rust Encapsulator is great It is tuff and go's on easyI used it on a 1935 Chevy I can see nothing wrong with it yet have it on for 2 weeks now still working on the car
  • Great Product
I ordered this product a month ago and shipping was very quick. I finally had a chance to use it on Tahoe this weekend. After prep work the rust encapsulator went on easily. Clean up me took gojo and some scrubbing. Alas my driveway did not fair so well. All in all it is a great product.
  • Rust Encapsulator Black 15 oz.aerosol
have done 2 frames now and appears ok, have heard issues of bleed through, I will keep u posted , but covers well and seems to do what it says.....
  • Works great so far
Have been using it for about a year now although the car hasn't been driven in the weather yet I've washed it several times and there's not any thoughts of the rust coming back through
  • Rust Encapsulator
Works very well, spend a little more time with preparation - it will pay off in the end.
  • Great Product for intended purpose.
I've purchase this product for a couple different projects a couple years back and 2000 Jeep for my son this year. I live in SC and its humid.. So much so that you can see the moisture build on the area that was sprayed with another product "NOT Eastwood brand" rust converter and prep (jeep is in the garage and out of the elements) 1 month from day of application. The Eastwood Encapsulator has shown no signs of rust or moisture build up as this sets in the garage for over a month. For anyone using the Eastwood Encapsulator I would stress that you follow up with Eastwood's Extreme Chassis black, it builds a tough barrier on those spots that you treated that get exposed to road debris. I've heard of other people using this product without top coating it and their results were unfavorable I believe due to location of area treated and application method. Prep, clean, apply and top coat. You will be glad you did!
  • Great stuff
It has a nice flow with no splatters. I was surprised how smooth the finished turned out. Hope it will stay on many years to come.
  • worked great in the hard to reach places
I used this where the brush would not reach, I will use more in the future
  • Simple to use
Works very well. No need to sandblast everything. Just remove the scale and spray it on
  • WORKS GREAT
USED THIS AND FRAME INSIDE ENCAPSULATOR, VERY PLEASED WITH ALL PRODUCTS FROM EASTWOOD
  • EXCELLANT PRODUCT
I USED THIS ON A 70 CHEVY TRUCK FLOOR THAT HAD BEEN LEFT OPEN TO THE ELEMENTS AND HAD RUSTED BADLY. IT WORKED BETTER THAN I EXPECTED.
  • My 55 is Back.
have been using the Rust Encapsulator and this product work well no rusted area that I can't well on and also the firm, inside and out. I really like the way is coats and I can paint right over it.
  • Great coverage
It is great coverage for areas you cannot get to. Covers well.
  • Great Product
Third or fourth quart works awesome!! Takes care of the rust.
  • WOW!
Goes on and sands easily. Can be top coated which was my main reason in purchasing it. I'm sold and will buy more!
  • Rust encapsulator
This is not the first time I've used this product. The first time I used it was the spray cans for coating a frame. It went on very well and looked stock, very professional finish. But the shocking part was when I took an angle grinder to see the how durable it was and it is a pretty bullet proof coating. I am very happy with this product.
  • works great
This stuff is great. works as described. I have used this stuff several times and would buy again
  • Rust killer
I first used this product about 6 years ago in combination with Eastwoods Rust Converter on some seriously rusted areas on my 1988 5th ave. I was using the car as a Taxicab at the time in Syracuse NY, where the winters are long and they use a lot of salt. I drove it through 2 winters after that as a cab and the rust never came back where I had treated it. I still have the car, and it still hasn't. I just recently used both products on some steel wheels ( now mounted with snow tires) that will be put to the same test. Great stuff!
  • Rust Encapsulator & Silver Agent
I have applied a lot of the black matte encapsulator finish on an old truck frame without much if any surface prep & some white rust encapsulator on old shocks. I would say the paint is great & the applicator (me) needs replacement. Even at that I think it stopped the rust and now six months later I see no bleed through & I have been watching it on the white shocks. These shocks were ugly rusty and pitted & now they are bright white and look great at 10'. Sure makes for an easy improvement on rusted truck frames. I used Eastwood's wheel paint with more prep and it looks great. We'll see in time and with winter salt coming. Sorry pics bit blurry
  • this stuff is great for under coating,
Im working on a new project 1980 camaro Z28 frame off.
  • Looks promising
I used this on my '71 VW camper rebuild. I crushed glass blasted it then applied After Blast then this product. I don't think I'll leave it on as a top coat on the underside but will add the rubberized undercoating. No idea how well it will stop small amounts of left over rust from developing but I guess I will find out.
  • Super Great
Eastwood Rust Encapsulator is easy to use. Simple process and looks great.
  • Rust Encapsulator works wonderfully
Recommended by a long time Ford restorer as the best product to stop rust and it does. I used it in the trunk pan of our 58 TBird convertible and sprayed new paint on top. Looks brand new and won't rust anymore!
  • Easy to spray
I thinned it 15% and it looked great. 1 quart was 1 coat on my suv undercoat. I shall see how long it holds up.
  • Incredible buy
When you have gone to the local auto parts store and saw some sort of rust encapsulating product, the Eastwood Rust Encapsulator is what you wanted and imagined. I've bought several versions of this sort of product but non of them did what was advertised. Eastwood's delivers.
I had a rusty part of a bumper off my Hummer I coated with the spray can version. I ran out with just a small area uncovered. I pulled out a can of duplicolor's rust product I had laying around to finish cover the area just to ensure against flash rusting. There was light dew overnight. The next morning everything covered with duiplicolor was rusted. I bought more of the Eastwood product, sanded off the duplicolor and put Eastwood down. More than a couple weeks later, it looks exactly like it did when I painted it.
Now for the tips and tricks- in order to get into the little crevices in rough rust it has to be a thin or low viscosity product (otherwise surface tension will keep it from getting down in the cracks.) So... this product is runny. The picture on the website shows using a foam brush. I really don't recommend this in practice. I started off with one, but the foam holds too much of the encapsulant and the moment you touch the part and compress the foam the encapsulant runs like water off your part. Instead use an inexpensive bristle brush. It really doesn't leave brush marks because it is so thin. If this is going to be a part visible or painted over, you probably want to go with the spray can or use your own spray gun.
Using a brush, you can probably reduce the number of coats you might do with a can, as it invariably is thicker going on. If you buy the can, I found that you can get all the coverage you need for the area the can says it covers. Most other products you can get one thin coat coving the area the can says it covers so it is a great buy.
I'd recommend buying both the spray can and the quart container for any project because the can just gets you into some places the brush has a hard time with.
  • Excellent product
I've found the Rust Encapsulator Black spray paint to be Excellant Product, have used 3-4 cans restoring the frame and underside of my 55 Ford. Looks great, and cleans easy as I DRIVE my car in all weather. When becomes dirty, put it on Easy Lift, hose off and back to looking great. JUST FOLLOW DIRECTIONS and you to will be pleased.
  • great stuff
Simply said, best product from others I tried Dries fast looks good and holds and protects well.Been using it on few my projects.good stuff
  • working on rusty old jeep
Went on nice. Painted over nice. Now just have to wait and see how it works.
  • exallent product
I bought a quart 2 years ago and used it on a vehicle and it worked perfect...Also put some on a piece of steal and through it in a snow bank...picked it up 2 years later same color black and no rust...the steal was all rusty before I used it....
  • Rust Encapsulator Aerosol
I love the aerosol version of the Rust Encapsulator, it is great for touch-up or small tight areas where the brush is just not the right tool for the job. The product flows nice and smooth from the can and it is overall a great product that stands up and above the competitors products. The only bad thing, and it really isn't a bad thing, is that I wish there was a larger aerosol can available for purchase.
  • Saved money and Time!
I've been using another undercoating for years. This product surpasses anything I've used in the past. It stays where you spray it and covers well. I treat the underside of my vehicles yearly as needed, as I live in New England...plenty of road salt here!. I was amazed with the coverage. I have a 2003 Silverado, and it took 15 cans of that other product. With Eastwoods Rust Encapsulator, I only used 6 cans with better coverage! No waste when spraying. The product stays where you spray it, and not on you! Very pleased!
  • Excellent product
I just got this and sprayed around my radiator supports and it looks great as is. I also used on a pipe outside my house. Great!
  • Easy and Handy to use.
I have used this particular Eastwood Rust Encapsulator for years. I particularly like the convenience of the aerosol for touch up rather than getting my paint sprayer out. Very easy and handy to use.
  • Fantastic products
I have used Eastwood products on and off for years.....their the best.....fair price and great service. Thanks
  • Rust Encapsulator and video's
Your Rust Encapsulator is some mighty fine stuff , thank you, Also might add, enjoy your video's, but the one recently with Rick Harris Pin Stripper, with Kevin Tetz was outstanding..... thank you ....Sanford (sandy) Graham
  • fantastic
2nd time I have bought this product. It works so well, I dont know what other product I would use.
  • Good paint
It works great!!! The paint is easy to apply and looks nices
  • Worked Great
Worked as described. I've restored a couple of go karts, this one had a pretty rough underbelly from sitting out. I needed some type of coating with a hose for better access and something that would control the rust. This was perfect. Keep in mind there will be some overspray. Can't comment on longevity of course, but it's a huge improvement. Worth a try.
  • Awesome product
Works great on bare metal. Follow the directions and you will have no problems. Arrived early in the mail. No problems with packaging or damaged product. Very happy with the results.
  • easy to apply
this is the second quart I have purchased. It covers good and doesn't seem to rust through. I've used it on boat trailers. Diff covers, crossmembers and truck frame. So far works great. A little pricey but seems to be well worth it.
  • Rust Encapsulator
Have used it on rust areas on my 1966 Chrysler 300 Convertible and also on our outside Rusty Rail at our Factory. It looks good and saves a lot of time to remove the rust
  • The Right Stuff
Works just like it states. You can see it encapsulate the rust. Buy the quart or gallon for more coverage less waste and fumes. As the directions state just wire brush off dirt and loose rust, actually it actually spreads over the rust. Capillary action I guess. Sponge works best. Wear thick rubber gloves, eye protection, and a long sleeve shirt and just hold the sponge and stuff it all the nooks and crannies. Real good coverage. Clean off skin with silicone lubricant spray. Even looks pretty good, nice consistent color.
  • Good coverage
I can did the hole core support on a c10 truck seems to hold up well and stopped the rust in its tracks
Used a wire brush on a angle grinder to prep before applying
  • Best Rust Product
I have used for years and it has a great finish that is durable and long lasting. I would prefer Eastwood use different spray buttons. VHT has a superior spray button that is much easier to use
  • Great Product
Great Product, It's so easy for smaller jobs with minimal cleanup. I us it a lot
  • Excellent Product
Used this product on my F150 frame. Product worked as advertised and extremely happy with finished product
  • Rust Encapsulstor Extended spray nozzle
I received my Rust Encapsulator with extended nozzle last week. Used it right away , been working on a set of sliding rear doors on a Freestar van . I was impressed with the nozzle tip, I used a coat hanger too keep the tubing straight, it coats everything , fingers, hands parts lol I cleaned the tub ad spray head out with thinner and low air pressure, I have enough left too use it again. Thanks
  • Great on C2 Corvette Birdcage
used on the exposed portions of the 'birdcage' metal under the door sills between the frame and body. Wire-brushed any loose stuff and sealed it with the encapsulator, very happy with the finish.
  • eastwood has a great auto product...
A friend of mine told me about this rust feared product and I'm well pleased on its application..i drive a 01 Cadillac deville and had small spots of rust...works well in low humidity and my car is now happy...who cares about winter..thanks
  • Easy to use!
Extension nozzle easy to use. Inserted into frame opening and activated nozzle. Inspection inside frame revealed excellent coverage.
  • Easy use with no waste
Coated inside vintage wheel rims and was pleased with results after using. There is no chance wasting contents as with some products as they dry out easily in containers with paint can style lids. For small jobs, this is the right product
  • The Best!
I used this while restoring a 1979 CJ-7 Jeep. That was 7 years ago and still no sign of rust anywhere on the frame. Awesome stuff!
  • great
This is the best for the price product I've ever used.
  • NOTHING BETTER FOR THE PRICE
I've been in the V.W. restoration business (VOLKSTECH) in Burlington N.J.for 35 years before retiring and found this item either in qt.s, gal., or spray the best performing, priced and ease of use money can buy, don't waste your time and money on the others out there, your reputation my depend on it.
  • Excellent spray pattern
East woods rust encapsulator has an excellent spray nozzle. It was very easy to apply. I would definitely recommend this product.
  • Worth the investment
I use this as a base for my frame painting on my show truck and am really pleased with it - so much so I plan to do my tow rig next then probably my daily driver. Follow the prep guidlines well (as you should with any paint product) and you'll be pleased with the results too. I've actually started to shoot it with the airless sprayer that I got off here, and I think that actually gives a superior coating to brushing it on. Plus it dries quickly regardless of the application method, so you can move on to final finishes sooner. Definitely worth the money.
  • Great product
I just finished using a can of this on my jeep. Works great, looks good. Be sure to order the extension hose. Helps to get into the hard to reach places.
  • RUST BE GONE. GO TO SLEEP.
I USED THIS PRODUCT TO ENCAPSULE THE WHEEL RIMS ON MY SON'S 2004 GMC SAFARI VAN. FANTASTIC COVERAGE. AND ADDED BEAUTY TO THE VAN'S APPEARANCE. EASY TO APPLY AND A VERY SMOOTH FINISH
  • This product is awesome
I bought this to touch up my engine compartment on my 72 Mustang convertible. I brushed off the rusty areas with a wire brush, scuffed up everything, wiped it all down with acetone and applied. I used two or three wet coates to get great coverage and I'm sure there won't be any rust coming back any time soon. Eastwood products really perform to their claims. I was planning on spraying a semi-gloss black over this to match the stock gloss levels, because the matt really isn't concours for a Ford, but it looks so good that I decided to paint the rest of the engine compartment with this product. It looks that good!
  • Great Stuff-Highly Recommende
I bought this to try on my Mustang restoration. Found out I was using it for more than I thought. If there is any chance of rust I use it even if I sand blast the part. For those parts I prime with this and then topcoat. I use it on the undercarriage as a stand alone. It has a great finish look as is. I've just ordered more cans for possible other projects involving metal. I've recommended it to my friend for his car project. Highly recommend.
  • Great coverage
Great coverage all the way around 360 degrees with thisn extension nozzle.
  • rust encapsulator
great product, works amazing. exactly what is said it would do. Sprays wide and great doesn't miss a spot.
  • sprays well
after receiving, cleaned parts, sprayed and covered well. I guess time will tell on its ability to last.
  • Rust encapsulator product
Applies very well and provides a nice base to work with and dries quickly . Working on 71 Pontiac and 65 Nova and I would purchase this again without question. It met expectation and beyond and could not be happier. I bought multiple items, Engine compartment paint, seam sealer etc. Worth every penny in results!
  • This stuff works!
I'm in the process of restoring a Suzuki Samurai which are legendary for having rust problems. I am very satisfied with this product, as the spray can version makes it very easy to get to those hard to reach areas under the truck. And it looks great!
  • This stuff is very forgiving
I used this on the metal skeleton of the back seat in my 1967 Chevelle. It covered nice and was very forgiving as far as running and thickness.
  • Looks like new
I used this to refinish the floor boards, package tray, and inner walls of my 1967 Chevelle. This stuff worked great. It applied nicely and only took a small amount to cover the work area. I did a little more than wire brushing the area, but it was worth it. My floors look brand new.
  • rust encapsulator
great stuff. have not checked for long term but great so far
  • Fantastic paint
I bought the R. Encapsulator for a van restoration. The roof was very rusty and required sanding and rust remover. After painting the roof with primer the rust came back, this was done twice. When I used the Rust Encapsulator on the third try, that was the end of the rust. I was able to finish the van for painting. I'm currently restoring a Rustang and using the R/E liberally. I would like Eastwood to consider adding smaller R/E spray cans for the hard to reach places.
  • More satin than flat black but still spot on...
Great product indeed and quite easy to apply... Only observation was that the flat black was more satin in sheen than preferred
  • RV Rust Maintenance
This my first experience using a rust "proofing" product and it has been a good one. The Rust Encapsulator was easy to apply; I wire brushed the exposed RV body parts, along the bottom of the storage bays, did some rough sanding into the existing paint, and brushed on the Encapsulator. It went on smoothly and it goes a long way. I applied only one coat and it looks great. Convenient on-line ordering and and very fast delivery was a plus. I'd recommend this to anyone in need of this type of product.
  • Excellent product
Had some parts of my Truck with rust. But after clean the part and apply this product, worked wonders for me. Thank you
  • great stuff
I bought the nozzle with mine and it gets in every nook and cranny its for a 02 f150 hope it lasts another 10 years used it on a new core support and doing doors and rockers with it too
  • good product
Over the years I've used this product by the gallon and spray can. Works as advertised. Used under primer with success.
  • Great Stuff
Have been using this for 15 years and it has always worked well. Eliminates the rust from reappearing and is easy to use, both the spray and brush on.
  • Really good stuff!
used this on a Model A frame that was 90 yrs old, after minimal clean up, I painted it with two coats and it looks fantastic! very scuff resistant during the entire build process.
  • Great Product
Great product. Product sprayed and covered great. Time will tell if product stops rust from reappearing.
  • Best Gloss Finish from Spray can
I do lot's of small to major restorations and need a spray can gloss black that is easy to work with, lays down and flashes out nicely with good chip resistance. For me so far this is the best product yet. Of course you can't beat a finish from a HVLP gun and commercial quality paint but many times I have small pieces where this is just not practical. I've used other gloss black spray can products from here but was always disappointed with poor flash out, runs too easily or is too sensitive to humidity / temp. If you need to do small pieces or areas where the finish needs to be almost paint gun quality, try this. I think the finish looks better then even the 2-stage can paint. I recommend it!
  • Great Stuff
Love this stuff, put this on the underside of my truck and have to say it looks good.
  • this is a great item
1i went through the prep steps and sprayed the paint, it looks great dried fast I will be buying more
  • WORKS GREAT FOR RUST OR BARE METAL PRIMER
DONT BE FOOLED BECAUSE I thought I got ripped off when opening the can an thought it was just thinned out paint but feel in love when I gave it a try an once on any surface gets thick an goes on smooth dries fast perfect for a high quality primer..
  • great products
the paint works greats just top it off with a good topcoat . I love the nozzle extention it sprays 4 corners and out the tip very sufficiently
  • GREAT ON RUST
I've been in the auto body industry for over 40 years this products is great for controlling rust in areas that are not easily accessible & with ceramic chassis coating, you've got a great barrier of protection. It won't replace sandblasting & corrosion coating, but it's the next best thing.
  • Awesome product for the price!
This product is as good if not better than some of the other name brand products on the market and at a better price. I am thoroughly impressed with Eastwood's products and their excellent service.
  • Great stuff
I"ve used on several projects. Covers well and does what it says. And Eastwoods customer service is top notch.
  • Good stuff
Good stuff. It covers well and leaves a nice smooth, even finish. I just sprayed it last weekend, so I have to wait 10 years to see how long it lasts!
  • Superior Product
I was skeptical at first about how thin the product was straight out of the can. However,it penetrates into the surface rust very well.Use a disposable brush to work into tight, complex areas, and spray gun on large flat surfaces, and put on two coats. It is well worth the cost(cheap considering you will never have to address paint,or rust on the chassis ever again). This is hands down, the best product I have ever used!Period!
  • rust gone
Rust encapsulator does the job right. Make sure you follow directions, PRE is key. Just do it.
  • Good stuff
It wont adhere to bare metal, only rust. Don't even try. We scrape off the rust with a scraper and then apply this stuff directly over the rust. I use this on my fleet of Kenworth trucks to patch throughout the year. It works great to stop the rust until the summer when we have more time to clean and paint with POR-15.
  • paint goes on nice and improved spray pattern.
purchased other products from you and decided to give this a chance, glad i chose it i will be buying more in the future
  • happy and rust free
great product. the extention hose could be longer but I spliced mine and siliconed in a section of drip line from the hydroponic store. it fit snug and was long enough to get right to the back of my rocker panel from the access hole on the front
  • The item worked as advertised.
I bought this to treat the inside of the doors on my 66 Mustang. The product worked great and the extension wand was excellent for getting into the unseen areas.
  • Encapsulator paint
Great stuff. Dries fast, quickly sand able and bonds to the topcoat paint without incident of peeling. Love this stuff.
  • Excellent product
Excellent product. Product performance is as advertised when doing a restoration project. I will purchase again.
  • A Good Product to Protect Meal from Rust
I initially used Rust Encapsulator to prepare the metal on my 55 Chev truck restoration where there were many rusty surfaces and it worked very, very good. And now I feel that I have adequate protection for my valuable truck. Now, I use Rust Encapsulator on so many of my projects for vehicles, tractors and tools around home.
  • Great Product
I am restoring my 1967 Camaro and this product really does a great job of chemical treatment after removing loose rust and degreasing the area.
  • Spays on uniformly and looks good
I am unable to give a full review since I just sprayed it on my fender skirts and inside my hood and inside roof rails to coat the stuff I couldn't get to easily with wire brush. So I'll get back to you in a couple years
  • Best rust paint I've used
used this over the internal frame coating but it covered nicely and stuck to the surface without an issue. Seems like thick and durable paint compared to the thin rust sealing paint I've used in other brands.
  • Love this stuff
I have been using the black rust ecapsulator for over 6 years - both from the can and the spray can now on a variety of projects from my 66 Mustang to my 66 F250 and now a 66 VW Beetle. Goes on great, dries relatively fast and is very durable. I've used it several times without a topcoat and it holds up great. Given that I live in Arizona I can't say I have tested this stuff to the limit in terms of rust prevention, but it is very handy when you just can't get off that last little bit of rust. Gives me peace of mind. I even use it on bare metal that is not rusted. It's a bit pricey and sometimes the nozzle clogs or the accelerant runs out before the can is empty, but overall I have been very pleased with the product.
  • Good product
Seems to have very good adhesion qualities. coverage is great. Sprays well for a rattle can product. I am very interested to see that it actually stops rust. Overall a great product so far. the Eastwood customer service has a long way to go ...really poor!
  • Good Stuff
Have used lots of this over the last few years. I've brushed and used the aerosol spray. Hasn't let me down yet.
  • 15 yeard
I used this stuff 15 years ago for a 1949 Ford with a rusted frame. I put this on the frame and it looks as new today as the day I put it on. Now I'm going to use it under my travel trailer. One warning DON'T get any on you. It only wears off.
  • Great Product
This product is very handy for small jobs. I saves getting a spray gun or paint brush. Rust Encapsulator is very durable and easy to paint over.
  • TJ
    EASY AS PIE
PROPER PREP..DEGREASE AREA, REMOVE LOOSE RUST. SHAKE THE CAN REAL GOOD TO GET AS MUCH OF THE ACTIVE INGREDIENT IN SOLUTION THEN JUST SPAY YOUR HEART OUT.. DRIES QUICKLY APPLY SECOND COAT AND YOURE DONE.. ALLOW TO CURE AND CHECK FOR LEAKS NADA..AGAIN THIS PART IS NOT SUBJECT TO PRESSURE SO KEEP THAT IN MIND..SAVED A BUNDLE-O-CASH DOING IT MYSELF..
  • A must for any restoration project
Applies easily with brush or paint gun, lays out nice and holds up well. When you use with other Eastwood rust removers and prevention products, you don't have to worry, great product!
  • This Stuff Is Fantastic
My local body shop wanted nearly $1000 to replace my front bumper. Instead, I ordered the black rust encapsulator and planned to cover it with a bra. After some minimal sanding, I applied two coats and it looks fantastic! I have the bra, but I don't even need it. It matches my front grill, so you don't even notice it's not painted metallic grey as it was. I would not hesitate to use this on anything that rusts. I told all my friends I would want to be a distributor I believe in this stuff so much. I also told them I would help with their projects as it was easy and enjoyable to work with. It covered and and sealed like a dream. I will be buying again soon.
  • WOW
Great stuff, very good hiding capabilities, lays down flat and smooth. Nice spray pattern, does not run. But, pricy
  • excellent product!!!!!!
excellent coverage out of one can, done trunk, floorboards, etc. sprays evenly, outstanding product. no primer needed. can't say enough about this product,
  • Great product.
WOW! I've been using some of the old stuff (red) that I like because it would dry faster than POR-15. But this new encapsulator dries even faster - in just a few minutes. I don't have to stop working (stop creating dust) for 24 hours as with POR-15.
  • Good product
treated my chevelle frame last Nov. been sitting outside in the elements, holding up VERY good. Recommend this product to anyone. wire brushed loose rust, brushed on product, went on smooth with no brush marks. Plan on using other items from eastwood if they work like this.
  • Excellent product
I prefer this over POR-15 does the same thing !
  • Incredible paint
Let me just say this stuff is beyond belief. Don't even consider buying spray paint at your local store. This stuff is less expensive and works 300 percent better. I'm Amazed. Going to save me a ton of money and time on my restore.
  • Good Stuff
I'm restoring a 66 Pontiac LeMans which has been sitting outside neglected for a long time. I have used the Encapsulator on the seat frames which were extremely rusted. After knocking off all the loose rust and power washing, I painted the frames. The spray is a good thick stream which covers all nooks and cranny s very well. I'm very satisfied with the quality of the paint. Only time will tell if it holds up to the humidity in my area.
  • Treats rust in hard to reach areas.
Great penetration into rusty areas behind the dash and inside the window pillars. I used a flexible spray gun to get into the pillars. You must wear gloves or you will wear the paint for a week.
  • Easy to work with
I restored a rusty jeep frame, blasted first then coated with Rust Encapsulator then painted over with Eastwoods 2K Aero-Spray Ceramic. Results look terrific. Time will tell how it holds up.
  • great product
Amazing coverage! Some mentioned clogging. If you turn upside down and spray until nozzle is clear it doesn't clog!
  • REOREDERING
WISH I HAD THIS PRODUCT YEARS AGO, WORKS FINE, HOPE IT KEEPS THIS '78 FORD COUNTRY SQUIRE GOING FOR ANOTHER 300,000 MILES
  • wow
I do this for a living never seen anything that lives up to billing as well as this working on 56 chevy wagon great results going back and redoing all my other vehicles never do another again without it wow
  • I find uses for this stuff
have used many products over that last 30 years to handle rust issues, but this is my favorite. Clean the rusty metal, paint, and you have a great surface to leave or prep for additional work. I started using this on my cars, but have since used it all around the home. I recommend it to everyone and with few exceptions it is my go to rust product. The spray version in black work great also.
  • Stops rust in its tracks!
I have seen this paint hold up in all kinds of outdoor weather for 5 plus years! For example 100 plus degrees direct sunlight, snow, rain etc.
  • fantastic for coroded aluminum rims
i use this to seal corodered aluminum rims sand off the corosion and paint bot tires bead sealing areas of aluminum rims let dry renstall tires no more rim leaks so far has lasted 1 yr
We'll see in time and with winter salt comingg.

  • Use of Rust Encapsulator on Mustang Cowl
I'm working on a 68 Mustang Fastback, with the dreaded Cowl repair, I replaced the drivers and passengers side cowl, I decided to use Rust Encapsulator on the whole bottom cowl and it looks great, I also used it on the ne floorpans and it will cover the Eastwood seam sealer. I will probably be using more on the bottom side of the floor pans on the surface rust of the welds. One of the best features is that it dries in about 20 minutes and you can paint over it.
PS wear clothes you don't care about and disposible gloves, because it will not come out. If you get it on your skin a small shot of brake cleaner will get it off, hand cleaner will not. Thanks for a great product.
It looks that good.
  • Good Results
I just bought a used SUV that had been subjected to some harsh winters with some light rust spots in places on its independent suspension elements. I brushed off the loose rust and sprayed on the flat black encapsulator. It adheres well, dries quickly, and looks good. Drying time is minimal, especially in my low humidity environment. I can recommend the flat silver encapsulant too, which I also used in places. Eastwood's Rubberized Undercoating, which I have used in places, is a great product also. Based on my experience, I prefer the encapsulant treatment to a "rust convertor" that I tried from another company.

  • The Ultimate Product!
I am 53 years old and grew up in the automotive repair business, my father was a body man from before I was born so I have seen a lot of "The latest Thing" products come and go. Eastwood Rust Encapsulator is the best rust product I have ever used bar none! I am currently restoring a 1971 Pontiac Lemans that is showing rust in the usual places, however beneath what you can see is the real culprit, it is rusted under the rear trunk panel to the point is was thin and weak, after prep and spraying with Rust Encapsulator, the strength of this rusted panel is incredible. One word of warning, wear clothing over every inch of skin as this stuff sticks to everything and sticks well. In a word? the ultimate Rust product! 5 stars straight across the board.
